Wayanad, the green paradise is nestled among the mountains of the Western Ghats, forming the border world of the greener part of Kerala. Located at a distance of 76 km. from the sea shores of Kozhikode, this verdant hill station is full of plantations, forests and wildlife. Wayanad is unique in that it is situated in an elevated picturesque mountainous plateau in the Western Ghats. The vast stretches of mist - capped mountains, green meadows of valleys, white water springs, blue water lakes and wild forests express the splendid natural beauty of Wayanad. Its pretty image not withstanding, perhaps what the visitor finds most endearing about this quaint little hill station is its large tribal population of about fifty-strong tribes and their fascinating lifestyle. Wayanad has a salubrious climate all through the year. Summers (March to May) are hot but pleasant with the cool breeze from the nearby forest area, and is ideal for exploring the forest area. Monsoons(June to September) are warm with the maximum temperature reaching up to 35 °C. South-west monsoon and north-east monsoon are accompanied with heavy winds and rainfalls. Wayanad looks beautiful with average rainy days. Winters (December to February) are cool with minimum reaching down to 10°C, many tourists like this climate. Best times to visit here are during October to May. June to September offer medium rainfalls and can be used for short trips.
